Renewables developer ABO Wind AG (ETR:AB9) has secured two projects for solar plants with a combined capacity of 15.1 MWp and battery storage systems in the latest round of the German innovation tender.
The first project is for a solar park with a capacity of 10.5 MWp and a 3.5-MW storage facility. The solar-plus-storage plant will be built in Euskirchen-Wueschheim in North Rhine-Westphalia and is expected to go into operation in the summer of 2023, ABO Wind said on Wednesday.
Another hybrid system combining a solar plant of 4.6 MWp and a battery of 1.6 MW will be set up in Wald-Michelbach, Hesse, with commissioning planned for the autumn of 2023.
So far, ABO Wind has been awarded market premiums for eight hybrid projects with a total capacity of 43 MWp in Germany's innovation tenders. The first of these hybrid projects will soon start feed in electricity into the grid in Wahlheim, Rhineland-Palatinate.
According to ABO Wind's project development head in Germany Thomas Treiling, sufficient storage capacity must be available in order to increase the share of renewables in power generation and achieve the climate targets.
Apart from the hybrid projects, the company is currently working on the implementation of three projects for stand-alone battery systems with a total capacity of 45 MW across Germany.
