97 wind, 16 small HPPs contract output at Brazil's A-5 auction on Friday
Dec 16, 2013 - A total of 97 wind power plants, with overall capacity of 2,300 MW, and 16 small-scale hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) with a combined capacity of 307 MW, contracted their future electricity output at Brazilian government's A-5 energy auction held on Friday.
Also, five biomass thermoelectric power plants (TPPs) with capacity of 161 MW managed to sell their output at the auction, which closed with 3,500 MW contracted at an average price of BRL 109.93 (USD 47.2/EUR 34.3) per MWh.
Brazil's wind power generation association Abeeolica and the country's association of clean energy generation Abragel expressed their surprise by the record-high contracting of wind and small HPPs at the Friday's tender.
It was the second A-5 auction for this year after the one held on August 29. The facilities offered in the December tender will meet the country's demand as of 2018.
