US solar developer 8minutenergy Renewables LLC and DE Shaw Renewable Investments LLC (DESRI) today announced the commissioning of the 155-MW Springbok 2 solar farm in California.
Springbok 2 is located in Kern County, some 70 miles (112.7 km) north of Los Angeles. 8minutenergy is the original developer of the project, while DESRI invested the majority of the equity and arranged financing from a group of lenders and tax equity investors. Swinerton Renewable Energy (SRE), in turn, acted as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor.
The completion of Springbok 2 follows the commissioning of the 105-MW Springbok 1 solar park earlier this year.
“The Springbok solar projects are integral to meeting Los Angeles’s renewable energy targets of 25% by 2016 and 33% by 2020,” said Michael Webster, executive director of power system engineering and technical services at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP).
