On October 2, US utility Xcel Energy Inc (NYSE:XEL) set new wind generation records in Colorado, where it is the largest power provider, the company said on Thursday as cited by the Denver Business Journal.
On that Friday, an all-time high average of 54% of the energy supplied by the utility to its customers in the state came from wind. The wind power was almost entirely generated within Colorado, a spokesman for the utility was cited as saying.
The company also broke the wind generation record for a one-hour period. From 1500 to 1600 local time on October 2, wind power output was 2,352 MWh, exceeding the previous peak of 2,203 MWh registered on December 23, 2014.
Xcel currently has 2,342 MW of wind capacity in Colorado and plans to increase it by 20% next year, the article said.
