Wpd-SWM-Hofor quit Denmark's 600-MW offshore wind tender

German investors Wpd AG and Stadtwerke Muenchen (SWM) and Danish utility Hofor have decided to withdraw from the tender for selecting a developer for the 600-MW Kriegers Flak offshore wind project in the Baltic Sea.

In October 2015 it was announced that seven out of eight candidates have been pre-qualified to participate in the competition. The consortium by Wpd, SWM and Hofor, however, will quit because of the current political uncertainty for offshore wind development in Denmark, the Danish Wind Industry Association (DWIA) said on Wednesday.

The announcement comes at a time when the Danish government is looking for ways to reduce the Public Service Obligation (PSO) tariff, the one supporting renewables. In May it was reported that a 350-MW near-shore wind tender may be scrapped in order to reduce the burden on consumers.

The tender for the Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm is to be held later this year. The park is seen to be completed by the end of 2021.
