Wpd preps terrain for turbines for 72-MW Swedish wind project

Wpd europe GmbH, part of German renewables developer Wpd AG, has built the foundation structures for turbines that will make up the 72-MW Aldermyrberget wind farm in northern Sweden.

Currently, the company is working on anchoring the foundations with special rocks so that Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) can soon begin installing the first turbines, Wpd said.

The Aldermyrberget project will use 17 units of Vestas V150 turbines, each rated 4.2 MW, with a hub height of 155 metres and a total height of 230 metres. Due to weather conditions in the north, the turbines will be equipped with blade heating systems.

The project site is located in the municipality of Skelleftea in a traditional mining and industrial community. Aldermyrberget is the northernmost project that Wpd europe GmbH ever had to carry out, Wpd noted.

The wind farm will benefit from a power purchase agreement (PPA) with an undisclosed off-taker described as a “large Swedish industrial company”.

Commissioning of Aldermyrberget is scheduled for the end of 2020.
