WorleyParsons lands engineering job at 100-MW Kenyan wind project

Lake Turkana wind farm in Kenya, Sept 22, 2016

August 8 (Renewables Now) - Australia’s WorleyParsons Ltd (ASX:WOR) has signed a deal to deliver engineering services for the 100-MW Kipeto wind project in Kenya.

The contract was sealed with project developer Kipeto Energy Ltd for a 22-month period, WorleyParsons said on Monday. It comes just a month after Advisian, a unit of the Australian company, was picked as Owner’s Engineer for a 700-MW concentrated solar power (CSP) portion of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai.

The Kipeto wind farm will be located in Kajiado county, south west of the capital Nairobi and will use 60 turbines by General Electric Co (NYSE:GE). It has a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Kenya Power.

WorleyParsons is also in charge of the overall project management, engineering review and construction management services for the 310-MW Lake Turkana wind project in Kenya. According to earlier local media reports, the complex will be switched on in September.
