German engineering services provider Wiwi consult GmbH & Co KG has completed and handed over to the client a wind farm repowering project in Morbach, the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
The project involved the replacement of 14 old Vestas V80 turbines with seven Enercon machines of the E-141 model. The new units have the combined capacity to generate some 67 million kWh per year, according to the announcement.
Wiwi consult said it developed the project and guided it through the approval process before proceeding to build the wind park as the general contractor. After a year of construction, the plant entered into service on April 9, 2020.
The project was one of the winners in the tender held by the Federal Network Agency in May 2017. It is located in an energy park that previously represented the largest US Air Force ammunition depot in Western Europe. In addition to wind turbines, the park also includes a number of solar photovoltaic (PV) plants and a biogas system.
