Wind power VC funding grows to USD 210m globally in Q2 - Mercom
Jul 24, 2013 - Global venture capital (VC) investment within the wind energy sector increased to USD 210 million (EUR 159m) in the second quarter of 2013 from USD 16 million in the first three months of the year.
In its latest report on funding and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activity, Mercom Capital Group said that the strong rise was mainly thanks to investments in project developers from India such as ReNew Power and NSL Renewable Power.
On the other hand, large-scale project funding in the second quarter of 2013 came in at USD 3.2 billion in 24 deals after USD 6.2 billion in 29 deals in the first quarter. A total of 42 investors engaged in project funding deals during the April-June period of the year.
In terms of M&A activity, there were six deals with a combined value of a total of USD 328 million, the biggest of which was the acquisition of Brazilian wind power developer Salus Fundos de Investimento em Participacoes by state-owned power utility Copel (SAO:CPLE6).
