Wind power has covered 20.6% of Spain's demand in October, with generation reaching a new record of 4.33 TWh for the month, according data from the Spanish Wind Energy Association (AEE).
In addition to the generation increase, a considerable jump when compared to September when wind's share was just 12.2%, the wind power allowed for a 5.3% decrease in the Voluntary Price for Small Consumers (PVPC) rate, the country's regulated tariff.
The price of electricity in the wholesale electricity market went down from EUR 71.27 (USD 81.12) per MWh in September to EUR 65.08 per MWh in October, due to the increase in wind generation.
In the Canary Islands alone, wind generation broke all its past records. For several days in July it topped a 15% share in generation. Wind's January-October share has risen to 7.4% in 2018 from 4.5% in 2017.
