January 18 (Renewables Now) - The UK unit of Dutch plastic pipes manufacturer Wavin Holding BV will be buying natural gas and renewable power from Danish offshore wind major Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED).

Ørsted said in a statement that plumbing and drainage systems maker Wavin UK has awarded an energy contract that includes the purchase of REGO-certified (Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin) electricity from the Danish utility’s 11 UK wind parks. The deal will become effective in April 2019.

Wavin estimates that the new energy supply will cut its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 13.7 tonnes per year. It will cover the company’s four sites at Hazelhead, Chippenham, Forest Works and Doncaster for a period of three years.

The value of the contract was not disclosed.
