Nov 28, 2012 - Washington Gas Energy Service Inc (WGES), a subsidiary of WGL Holdings Inc (NYSE:WGL), yesterday launched a wind power product in the US state of Pennsylvania, called WGES PA WindPower.
Customers of utilities PECO, PPL, Penelec and MetEd now can switch to wind energy produced exclusively in the state, WGES said in a statement. Initially, the power for the product will come from the 37.8-MW Lookout wind farm in Somerset County, which is capable of generating enough electricity to power 37,000 homes per year, according to the announcement.
WGES is offering 50% and 100% WGES PA WindPower to residential customers and businesses. It said that homeowners who sign up with the company by December 22 would benefit from low introductory rates and that business customers were also being offered competitive prices. The cost of both the 100% and 50% versions of the product is currently below that of the PECO WIND option, which has been discontinued, and the 50% product for residential clients is also cheaper than PECO's current standard electricity rate, WGES says.
WGES concurrently joined ChoosePAWind, an organisation that groups wind developers, manufacturers, green power suppliers and environmental supporters.
