The government of Western Australia on Friday said a 464-kWh community battery has been installed in Busselton.
The battery, provided by Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA), is the first community storage system in the South West. Installing community batteries is part of the Distributed Energy Resources Roadmap announced by the minister for energy, Bill Johnston, in April.
The new system will allow the local distribution network operator Western Power to better balance neighbourhood load profiles during the day, while also enabling homeowners in the area to install photovoltaic (PV) panels.
Synergy, the state's leading power and gas provider, is expected to offer eligible homeowners the option to store their excess power in the battery later in 2020.
