January 6 (Renewables Now) - Vietnam's first wind farm, the Binh Thanh 1 Wind Farm in the south central province of Binh Thuan, lost one of its turbines to fire on Sunday, local media report.

The wind park, owned by Vietnam Renewable Energy Ltd, consists of 20 turbines with a combined capacity of 30 MW. They were commissioned in 2009 as the first phase of the VND-2-trillion (USD 86.3m/EUR 77m) project. When finished, it is expected to comprise 80 turbines with a total capacity of 120 MW.

The wind plant's staff and local firefighters worked hard to put out the fire at the turbine. While it was lost, there were no human casualties, Huynh Van Dien, chairman of Tuy Phong District's People's Committee, was cited as saying.
