Denmark’s Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) on Thursday announced orders to deliver turbines for 290 MW of wind projects in the US.
One of the deals was placed by Canadian utility Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp (TSE:AQN) and covers the supply, installation and commissioning of turbines from Vestas’ EnVentus platform at two sites. A 10-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement is included for both of them.
The contract calls for the Danish manufacturer to supply 16 units of the V162-6.2 MW turbines in a 6.0 MW operating mode and one V150-6.0 MW machine in a 5.6 MW operating mode for the Deerfield 2 wind farm in Michigan. Algonquin’s Sandy Ridge 2 wind park in Pennsylvania, meanwhile, will be equipped with 14 V150-6.0 MW turbines and one V136-3.45 MW turbine in a 3.6 MW operating mode.
Both projects have “difficult-to-build locations” due to land availability and transport limitations in the two states, noted Jeff Fuchs, vice president of sales for Vestas in North America.
The wind turbine maker will start delivering the equipment in the second quarter of 2022, while the wind farms are set to become operational in the closing quarter of the same year.
Under another deal awarded by an unnamed customer, Vestas will deliver 24 V150-4.2 MW turbines totalling 101 MW for an unspecified project. It will also service the hardware under a multi-year agreement.
Turbine deliveries are planned to begin in the third quarter of 2022, with commissioning scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2022.
