(ADPnews) - Oct 12, 2010 - Danish wind-turbine maker Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) opened today its first research and development centre in China, seeking to "spearhead innovation in wind technology".
Over the coming five years, the company plans to spend USD 50 million (EUR 36m) on the Beijing-based unit, it said in a statement on Tuesday. It intends to double its headcount from 100 in December 2010 to more than 200 in 2012.
The R&D centre, which will deal with high voltage engineering, aerodynamics, material development and software development, is seen to enhance Vestas's market agility. It completes Vestas's established business in China, which includes manufacturing, sourcing and sales operations in Tianjin, Hohhot, Xuzhou, Shanghai, and Beijing.
