Denmark’s Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) announced on the last day of June a number of wind turbine supply orders in Europe, including one that confirms its involvement in an offshore wind project in the German portion of the Baltic Sea.
Vestas said it has finalised with Spain’s Iberdrola SA (BME:IBE) the turbine supply contract for the 476-MW Baltic Eagle project off the island of Ruegen. The Danish firm will supply, install and service turbines of the V174-9.5 MW variant for that scheme. The wind farm in question is expected to be completed in 2024.
In Finland, Vestas unveiled a total of two orders. The first one came from an undisclosed investor involved in the 192-MW Lappfjard project developed by CPC Germania on the west coast of the country. Vestas will deliver 31 units of an upgraded version of the EnVentus platform’s V162-6.0 MW variant. The company will service these 6.2-MW machines under a 20-year deal. Deliveries and installation under this order are planned for the second quarter of 2022 and completion is scheduled for the first quarter of 2023.
The second Finnish contract is tied to the 126-MW Posio Murtotuuli project that is being developed by Taaleri Energia in the province of Lapland. Vestas will deliver, install and service 21 units of the V162-6.0 MW turbine model, equipped with an anti-icing system. Commissioning should take place in the final quarter of 2022.
In Belgium, Vestas will equip two projects in the industrial harbour of Ghent that are being developed by local firm Storm for the corporate heavy industry in the country. Specifically, the Danish company will deliver three V162-6.0 MW EnVentus turbines, two V150-4.2 MW machines in 4.3-MW power mode and one V150-4.2 MW unit, all for a 31-MW, zero-subsidy wind farm. That plant will sell power to ArcelorMittal SA (NYSE:MT) under a 20-year contract.
The other Belgian project is the Honda Gent wind farm that will feature just one V136-4.2 MW turbine. Honda Motor Europe will buy the electricity generated by that machine to supply its logistics centre in Ghent.
Commissioning of both Belgian projects is planned for the second quarter of 2022.
