Danish wind turbine maker Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) has won orders in the US for 368 MW of turbines from its 4-MW platform and a major servicing contract renewal, it said on Friday and Saturday.
Under a 159-MW deal with Terra-Gen, Vestas will supply turbines for the 193-MW Voyager II project in California. The park will be equipped with V117-3.45 MW machines delivered in 3.6-MW power optimised mode. Terra-Gen has previously purchased PTC-qualifying turbines from Vestas for the wind farm.
A five-year AOM5000 service contract is also included in the deal, Vestas said. It is to start delivering the machines in the second quarter of this year.
As part of another contract, Vestas will supply and commission 209 MW of V136-3.45 MW turbines in 3.6-MW power optimised mode in the US. Without disclosing the name of the customer and project, the manufacturer said it will also service the machines for seven years. Delivery of the equipment is slated to begin in the fourth quarter of 2018.
“This order once again emphasises the 4 MW platform’s momentum in the traditionally 2 MW-dominated US market [..],” said Chris Brown, president of Vestas’ sales and service division in the US and Canada. The Danish firm has so far installed more than 17,000 MW of the 4-MW platform turbines globally.
At the servicing front, Vestas has extended the term of service contracts for US projects totalling 1,150 MW. The agreements, signed with an undisclosed customer, cover four wind parks using multiple turbine platforms that have been serviced by the Danish firm since their commissioning. Following the renewals, the term of Vestas’ service agreements has been extended to 10 years, including balance of plant management.
At present, Vestas is servicing 76 GW of wind turbines around the world under long-term contracts. Roughly 24 GW of that capacity is located in North America.
