January 9 (Renewables Now) – Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) today announced it has become the first company to reach 100 GW of installed wind turbines.

The V110-2.0 MW turbine that marked the milestone was installed at end-2018 in Iowa where Vestas has been participating in the long-gestating Wind XI project of US utility MidAmerican Energy Company. The capacity of the wind power complex will reach up to 2 GW. It consist of multiple sites placed into service between 2017 and 2019.

The 100-GW threshold coincides with Vestas celebrating 40 years in business, a journey that started with a V10-30 kW turbine in Denmark in 1979. Four decades later, Vestas has more than 66,000 turbines installed in around 80 countries. It largest onshore wind model today is the V150-4.2 MW.
