Denmark’s Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) on Friday announced that it has been named the pre-selected tenderer to supply turbines for the 900-MW He Dreiht offshore wind power project in German waters of the North Sea.
The He Dreiht project is sponsored by German utility Energie Baden-Wuerttemberg AG (ETR:EBK), or EnBW, which pre-selected Vestas through an EU tender process, the Danish wind turbine maker said.
If Vestas secures the firm and unconditional order, it will supply turbines from the V236-15.0 MW platform, which has been on the market for only five months, the manufacturer said.
With 115.5-metre blades, one V236-15.0 MW turbine unit can sweep an area of 43,742 square metres (470,835 sq ft), and produce 80 GWh per year depending on site-specific conditions, according to Vestas.
The plan is to start turbine installation in the second quarter of 2025, and fully commission the wind farm in the fourth quarter of the same year.
EnBW will operate the He Dreiht wind farm without state subsidies. The utility secured the capacity in Germany's first offshore wind auction in 2017.
Plans to hook the wind farm to an offshore converter platform and to a station on land are underway. Last year, transmission system operator (TSO) TenneT Holding BV awarded contracts for the connection infrastructure and cabling systems to a consortium of Siemens AG (ETR:SIE) and Dragados Offshore SA and Danish industrial group NKT A/S (CPH:NKT).
