Vestas to optimise 316 MW of wind turbines for Ikea

Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) will optimise Swedish furniture retailer Ikea's 316-MW global fleet of Vestas turbines.

Vestas will improve the performance of Ikea's wind asset using its PowerPlus products, which involve site-specific optimisation of operational parameters, implementation of intelligent software algorithms and enhanced aerodynamic performance.

The upgrades are expected to boost the turbines' output by an average 1.5%, estimated to result in 13.5 GWh of additional generation a year. This will support Ikea's goal of producing enough renewable energy to cover its consumption by 2020.

Under the deal, unveiled today, Vestas will upgrade six turbine types -- V80-2.0 MW, V90-2.0 MW, V90-3.0 MW, V100-2.0 MW, V112-3.0 MW and V112-3.3 MW -- spread across the US, Sweden, France and Poland.
