Vestas to cut sales efforts in India, focus on service - report
Sep 26, 2012 - Denmark's Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) will trim its sales activities in India and put more effort into the provision of service and maintenance to existing wind farms, The Hindu Business Line said, citing a company official.
As part of the plan, the wind turbine maker will also adjust its Indian headcount.
Mikkel Friis-Thomsen, communication partner, media and external relations, told the paper that the move was in line with Vestas’ global re-organisation plan. The ultimate goal of the plan, motivated by the challenging wind energy market, is to develop a more scalable and flexible structure and reduce costs by EUR 250 million (USD 322m) through the end of 2012.
Last week Vestas said it would start negotiations to cut 650 jobs in Denmark by end-September as part of a broader staff-curtailment programme.
