Sep 19, 2012 - Danish wind turbine maker Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) said Tuesday it would start negotiations to cut 650 jobs in Denmark by end-September as part of a broader staff-curtailment programme.
The measures will affect 331 blue-collar workers and 319 white-collar employees. Vestas expects to start negotiations with the trade unions tomorrow. Upon completion of the job cuts the company will have some 5,000 employees at home.
In its first-half financial report, published in August, Vestas said it would lay off a total 1,100 employees in September as part of the 2,335 staff-curtailment programme announced in January.
In addition, in August the turbine maker announced a further 1,400 job cuts bring the total number of planned lay-offs to over 3,700. At the end of 2012, the company plans to have reduced its workforce to some 19,000 employees.
