December 1 (Renewables Now) - Danish wind turbine supplier Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) said today it has received a new order from US utility MidAmerican Energy Co towards its 2-GW Wind XI project in Iowa.

MidAmerican, which is a unit of Berkshire Hathaway Energy, has purchased 70 MW of Vestas’ V110-2.0 MW turbines. The Danish company has a master agreement in place to supply and commission the 1,000 pieces of 2-MW turbines that will make up the whole USD-3.6-billion (EUR 3bn) Wind XI complex and is executing it in portions.

Vestas expects to manufacture the machines under the latest order at its four Colorado factories. Deliveries are scheduled for the second quarter of 2018. The order also includes a multi-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM5000) service agreement.

The entire Wind XI complex is seen to enter into service in 2020. It will span over multiple sites in Iowa.
