February 28 (Renewables Now) - Danish wind turbine maker Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) has expanded its partnership with utility asset inspection company InspecTools, providing customers globally with online access to view blade conditions across entire fleets.

The companies said Tuesday they have signed a global partnership, under which Vestas will deploy InspecTools’ WindAMS wind turbine blade inspection data management system across its global service business units. Along with customer access to an online portal, WindAMS can enhance predictive maintenance and help mitigate issues such as severe leading-edge erosion, which can reduce annual generation by up to 5%, Vestas said.

"Deploying WindAMS will enable Vestas to standardise the collection, review, analysis and reporting of turbine blade condition data collected anywhere, by any method," explained InspecTools' chief executive Paul Bingaman.

Vestas has been working with Folsom, California-based InspecTools on drone inspections in North America since 2016. The partnership also includes an agreement to further develop WindAMS artificial intelligence (AI) to automate inspection data analysis, the turbine manufacturer said.
