May 12 (Renewables Now) - Wind turbine maker Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) has brought in Anders Nielsen to serve as the company’s chief technology officer (CTO) and appointed Tommy Rahbek as the permanent chief operating officer (COO), a position he filled on an interim basis since start of the year.

Their appointments are effective as of today, May 12, Vestas has said.

Arriving from the automotive industry, Nielsen replaces Anders Vedel on the CTO chair and will take his seat in the Vestas executive management.

Vedel, who has been the CTO at Vestas for almost a decade, will continue as the chief scientific officer and report to CEO Henrik Andersen. He will serve as executive advisor to Andersen and the boards of Vestas and MHI Vestas Offshore Wind, its joint venture with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd (TYO:7011).

Vestas said it wants its executives to lead the technology development throughout the next phase of the energy transition, which will be marked by a higher penetration of renewables, accelerated electrification and opening of new markets.

The high-level reshuffle was also prompted by the company’s ambition to implement and accelerate modularisation and modular product development across its entire value chain, the turbine company added.
