Vestas gets 29-MW wind farm repowering order in US

Danish wind turbine supplier Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) said today it has received a firm and unconditional order for a 29-MW repowering project in the US.

Vestas will deliver 29 MW of the V110-2.0 MW turbine components manufactured in Colorado to an unnamed customer for use as part of future repowering efforts within its operating wind portfolio. Deliveries will start next year.

This being Vestas’ first repowering in the US, the company noted it expects the number of such projects to increase over the coming years because they lead to significant returns from higher annual energy production and lower operating costs.

"The scale of technological innovation in our turbines in the last five years is breathtaking, and has reduced the cost of wind energy by 66%," said Chris Brown, president of Vestas' sales and service division in the US and Canada.
