July 18 (Renewables Now) - Danish wind turbine maker Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) said today it has expanded its partnership with gearbox manufacturer ZF in a way that allows it to provide a complete exchange and turnkey solution globally.

The new partnership will see Vestas become ZF’s preferred supplier to perform uptower repair work. At the same time, ZF will act as Vestas’ preferred supplier for shop repairs and replacement units.

Vestas noted that the solutions offered by the company will help lower repair costs, decrease downtime and limit additional future repairs. The pair will also work on new repair and gearbox service products that can benefit the rest of the industry.

“With this new partnership, we are expanding our gearbox capabilities and are at the same time lowering the total cost of ownership -- all to the benefit of our customers,” said Christian Venderby, GSVP, Service.
