Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) has installed a prototype of its V162-7.2 MW turbine, the Danish wind turbine manufacturer said on social media this week.
The prototype turbine was raised at the Østerild National test centre for large wind turbines in Western Jutland, Denmark over the past weekend and will now be subjected to a test and verification programme before the start of serial production.
The turbine, part of the EnVentus platform, was introduced in November 2021. It features flexible ratings of 6.5 MW, 6.8 MW and 7.2 MW and is designed to deliver optimised energy production even with greater temperature and climate variations, the company explains. The turbine also offers improved transportability of the nacelle unit.
In April 2022, Vestas introduced the V172-7.2 MW under the EnVentus platform and changed the medium-to-high wind EnVentus variant V162-6.8 MW to a 7.2 MW name plate.
