Denmark’s Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) has been picked up to equip the 396-MW Rye Park wind farm in New South Wales, Australia, it said on Wednesday. The deal was placed by project owner Tilt Renewables, which recently offloaded its Aussie assets to Powering Australian Renewables (PowAR). The contract calls for Vestas to supply and install 66 units of the EnVentus platform V162-6.2 MW wind turbines in a 6.0 MW operating mode. The Danish firm will also oversee the wind park’s operations under a 30-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement. It expects to deliver the turbines in the third quarter of 2022, while their commissioning is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2023. The Rye Park wind farm will be located near the Rye Park township in the Southern Tablelands region of New South Wales. Once fully operational, it will be capable of producing electricity for about 215,000 homes per year. At end-2020, Tilt signed a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Newcrest Mining Ltd that will see the gold miner buy around 55% of the wind park’s output for its mining operations at the Cadia mine in New South Wales.
