Verdezyne sells biomass sugars-to-fuel technology to DuPont

Dec 18, 2012 - US renewable chemicals and fuels maker Verdezyne Inc yesterday said it had sold its patented xylose isomerase technology for the conversion of biomass sugars to fuels and chemicals to a unit of US group DuPont (NYSE:DD).

DuPont Industrial Biosciences has acquired the rights to Verdezyne's xylose isomerase technology for use in the biofuels and biochemicals sectors. The technology uses xylose isomerase -- an enzyme that enables the fermentation of certain pentose sugars to ethanol and other products.

"Biomass bioprocessing is opening up unique market opportunities across a wide range of DuPont businesses and the Verdezyne technology is a natural fit for the company’s cellulosic portfolio", said DuPont Industrial Biosciences' vice president John Ranieri.
