Vattenfall to start selling wind electricity to UK businesses

Vattenfall AB is launching this month a retail offering in the UK, where it will sell renewable electricity to business customers.

The Swedish state-owned utility said on Monday its green power product will help large UK electricity users reduce their carbon footprint.

Vattenfall will sell the power from its wind capacity in the UK, which will top 1 GW from 2018. The company entered the UK wind sector in 2008 and says it has now invested almost GBP 3 billion (USD 3.9bn/EUR 3.5bn) in the country.

"This is the first time that Vattenfall is making a B2B retail offering in the UK. We are able to do this because of our investment in British wind capacity since 2008," noted Anna Borg, Vattenfall's new head of business area markets.

The new offering is called FRESH, which stands for Flexible, Renewable Electricity, Supplied Honestly.
