The tender for the Borssele Wind Farm Site V, an innovation offshore wind project in the Netherlands, has been won by the Two Towers consortium, one of its members, Van Oord NV, said on Friday.
The consortium will build a 19-MW wind farm more than 20 km off the coast of Zeeland, within site III of the Borssele Wind Farm Zone. Offshore contractor Van Oord is in charge of the design and the offshore works, financial advisory firm Green Giraffe BV will be involved in the project management and financing, and renewable energy developer Investri Offshore BV provides the project director.
MHI Vestas has been selected as the preferred supplier of the park’s two 9.5-MW turbines. These are planned to be operational in 2021, producing enough power to meet the needs of 25,000 homes.
The Two Towers consortium has planned “several innovations”, such as the use of the “slip joint” technology for connecting the monopile and transition piece. Developed in collaboration with Van Oord, the technology is maintenance-free and it cuts installation time. The offshore wind park will also use new eco-designs for scour protection to the benefit of the maritime environment.
