Dutch marine contractor Van Oord announced today that this week one of its vessels has set sail to Italy where it will start work on the 30-MW Taranto offshore wind project.The vessel in question, MPI Resolution, will be used to install the monopiles, secondary steel and the 10 turbines that will form the wind farm near the Taranto harbour. Van Oord said that MPI Resolution can handle both the very shallow and deeper water locations in the project area.The Taranto offshore wind park will be the first one in the Mediterranean Sea and will have the capacity to produce some 58,000 MWh per year. It is being developed by Renexia SpA, a unit of Toto Holding.China’s Ming Yang Smart Energy Group Ltd (SHA:601615) will supply the 10 turbines for the project.
