January 17 (Renewables Now) - Dutch company Van Oord and Japanese shipping and logistics company NYK Group have signed an agreement to partner in the ownership and operation of offshore wind installation vessels in Japan.

Van Oord will contribute to the partnership its technical and operational expertise in offshore wind, while NYK Group will help with its knowledge of the Japanese market.

The vessels will transport and install both the foundations and wind turbines for offshore wind projects. The two companies are also looking to cooperate on other types of vessels used in the construction and operation of offshore wind parks.

The partnership comes as the offshore wind market in Japan is expecting growth in demand as a result of a new Japanese law that aims to make such projects easier to develop. The law was passed last April.
