Dutch offshore contractor Van Oord has been awarded a contract for the balance of plant works at the 370-MW Norther offshore wind project in Belgium.
The company said today it would take care of the engineering, procurement, supply and installation of the 44 turbine foundations, the Offshore High Voltage Station and the inter-array and export cables. It will also install the turbines. As announced earlier today, MHI Vestas has been awarded an order for 44 pieces of its V164-8.4 MW turbines in a competitive tender process.
Van Oord is to use its offshore installation vessel Aeolus and cable-laying vessel Nexus for the transport and installation of the foundations and turbines. It expects to commence construction in 2018.
Completion of the offshore wind park off the Zeebrugge coast is planned for the summer of 2019. Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation (TYO:8058) and Eneco Holding NV will each hold 25% in the project, while Elicio NV controls 50%.
