April 12 (Renewables Now) - US Wind Inc said today it has commenced oceanographic survey activities within its lease area off the coast of Maryland, where the firm will be developing an initial wind park of 270 MW.

Starting this month, a team of scientists and other experts will gather data until July 2021 to inform project design, including foundation type, turbine location and cable burial routes. Marine research vessels operated by TDI-Brooks Inc will be used when conducting geophysical survey operations.

The company stressed that its activities will not restrict fishing in the offshore wind lease. At the same time, it is making an extensive effort to minimise impacts on marine life.

The lease area, won in 2014, could accommodate up to 1.5 GW of renewable power generation capacity.

The firm is majority owned by Italian renewables developer Renexia SpA, which, in turn, is part of Toto Holding SpA.
