US Solar Blue to install USD 30m clean energy system in Philadelphia

(ADPnews) - Nov 22, 2010 - US clean energy firm Solar Blue will build USD 30 million (EUR 22m) worth of wind, solar and cogeneration power producing systems on the sports stadium of the American football team Philadelphia Eagles, the team said on Thursday.

The company will install 80 wind turbines on the rim of the stadium, 2,500 solar panels on the stadium's facade, build a 7.6 MW dual-fuel cogeneration plant and implement monitoring and switching technology. Construction is seen to be completed in September 2011.

Solar Blue will own and operate the system and sell electricity to the Eagles for 20 years, saving the team an estimated USD 60 million in energy costs.

The system will generate 1.039 billion kWh of electricity for the 20-year period, topping the needs of the stadium, and will sell to the grid some 4 MW of excess energy, according to Solar Blue and the Eagles.
