(ADPnews) - Nov 10, 2010 - US solid waste management firm Republic Services Inc (NYSE:RSG) said on Monday it contracted alternative fuel firm Clean Energy Fuels Corp (NASDAQ:CLNE) to process and sell renewable natural gas recovered from its site in Michigan.
Under the bio-methane recovery deal, Clean Energy will set up a landfill gas processing plant at the site of Republic Services to produce renewable natural gas that will be fed into the natural gas pipeline system. The gas will be distributed for use as a vehicle fuel to Republic Services fleets and Clean Energy clients, and for direct use by green power customers.
The plant is scheduled to start production at the beginning of 2012. When at full operation, the facility is expected to produce up to 6 million diesel gallon equivalents of green bio-methane per year.
Republic Services said that it has also contracted Clean Energy to establish and run 14 compressed natural gas refuse vehicle fuelling stations and to deliver 3 million gallons (11 million litres) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel per year for Republic LNG refuse fleets in California.
