US Reichhold gets funding for wind energy materials research in Norway

Aug 23, 2013 - US polymers producer Reichhold said on Thursday its technology centre in Norway has received NOK 7.1 million (EUR 870,000 / USD 1.2 m) funding for its Renwind research of materials for wind turbine blades.

The project is funded over a three-year period under the Norwegian Research Council’s clean energy program.

The Renwind project is aimed at developing vinyl hybrid resin systems for the production of wind turbine rotor blades. Reichhold's technology centre has partnered with three other research institutes for the development of the project.

Introduction of vinyl hybrid systems can contribute to growth in the wind energy sector due to higher cost-efficiency than the currently used materials, Egil Holtmon, Reichhold's technology director for Europe, added.
