US DOE offers USD-132m loan guarantee for Abengoa ethanol plant
Sep 30, 2011 - The US Department of Energy (DOE) yesterday said it had finalised a USD-132.4-million (EUR 97.4m) loan guarantee to Abengoa Bioenergy, a unit of Spanish engineer Abengoa (MCE:ABG), for its cellulosic ethanol plant in the state of Kansas.
The project is expected to convert some 300,000 tonnes of agricultural crop residues into 23 million gallons (87 million litres) of ethanol a year, enough to save 139,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. The facility will use unconverted biomass to generate 20 MW of electricity to power the cellulosic ethanol plant.
Abengoa Bioenergy expects the project to create 300 construction jobs and 65 permanent jobs.
