January 18 (SeeNews) - The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) announced on Tuesday the names of nine bidders that will compete in mid-March for a wind lease area offshore Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

The BOEM, part of the US Department of the Interior (DoI), published the Final Sale Notice for the auction, which will take place on March 16, 2017.

It also posted a list of bidders that includes subsidiaries of Royal Dutch Shell (AMS:RDSA), Statoil ASA (NYSE:STO), PNE Wind AG (ETR:PNE3), Northland Power Inc (TSE:NPI) and Enbridge Inc (TSE:ENB), as well as Wpd offshore Alpha LLC, Wind Future LLC, Outer Banks Ocean Energy LLC and Iberdrola’s (BME:IBE) Avangrid Renewables LLC.

The 122,405-acre (49,540-ha) Kitty Hawk lease area starts about 24 miles (38.6 km) from shore and extends 25.7 miles in a general southeast direction.

To date, BOEM has held six competitive lease sales that generated more than USD 58 million (EUR 54.3m) in high bids. The latest one, concerning an area off the coast of New York, was won in December by Statoil with a record bid of USD 42.5 million.
