US Amyris, French Total demonostrate flight with renewable fuel
Jun 21, 2013 - US renewable chemicals and fuels firm Amyris Inc (NASDAQ:AMRS) and French oil and gas group Total (EPA:FP) announced on Thursday that the first demonstration flight in Europe with renewable fuel Biofene was successfully carried out at the Paris Air Show.
Biofene is produced thanks to a technology using engineered microorganisms which convert plant sugars into jet fuel.
Amyris and Total expect the product to be commercially available as of 2014.
An Airbus A321 aircraft flew from Toulouse to Paris with a blend of renewable jet fuel produced by the two companies.
A similar test was made last year in Brazil with an Embraer E195 jet.
