The offshore substation, said to be the first with two topsides, will be jointly used by Iberdrola and German electricity system operator 50Hertz. All structural components were produced at the Navantia dockyards in Cadiz, Spain and were transported by barge to the site in the Baltic Sea. The six-legged jacket and two topsides were installed by crane ship Oleg Stashnov, which spent less than week at the worksite.
Following assembly of the topside, the offshore transformer platform components were commissioned for service, according to the announcement.
The Wikinger wind farm will have 70 turbines of 5 MW each and is scheduled to become operational at the end of 2017.
