UPDATE - Polenergia gets enviro permit for 600-MW offshore wind in Poland

Polish energy company Polenergia SA has confirmed the receipt of environmental green light for a 600-MW wind farm in the Baltic Sea.

This is the first environmental permit to be issued for offshore wind in Poland. Polenergia aims to secure building permission and begin construction in 2019.

The project will have an overall capacity of 1.2 GW, with the company expecting the environmental decision for the second 600 MW later in 2016, it said this week.

The permit for Baltic Srodkowy III, granted by the Regional Directorate of Environmental Protection in Gdansk, means that work can now start on the technical design of the facility. It will consist of 120 turbines of up to 5 MW, located 23 km (14.3 miles) off the coast. The wind farm is expected to start generating electricity in 2021-22.

The total investment is estimated at PLN 10 billion (USD 2.5bn/EUR 2.3bn), and according to the company up to 60% of that sum could be spent in Poland.
