German wind turbine manufacturer Nordex SE (ETR:NDX1) today confirmed it will supply nine of its modern N117/3000 machines for the 27-MW repowering of the 20.8-MW Altenbruch I wind farm in Lower Saxony.
The company said in a statement it will replace the existing 16 legacy N60/1300 wind turbines at the site with the new ones by the end of the year. The new machines have hub height of 91 metres (298.6 ft) and a total height of 149.9 metres.
Less than a week ago, German wind developer PNE Wind AG (ETR:PNE3) said it had initiated the particular repowering project.
Nordex noted that the repowering business model offers considerable potential for the future. “In Germany it is important to increase the output of existing wind farms and to simultaneously reduce the number of wind turbines,” said Joerg Hempel, in charge of Nordex’s domestic business.
Last year, repowering accounted for 18% of all new installations in the country, Nordex added.
