UPDATE - ABB confirms HVDC tech order for DolWin5

May 13 (Renewables Now) - Swiss group ABB Ltd (SWX:ABBN) confirmed on Friday that its Power Grids business will be the High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) technology provider for the 900-MW DolWin5 offshore wind connection project.

ABB said in a statement that the contract it received from the Aibel/Keppel FELS consortium has a triple digit million-euro value. Its scope includes the supply of ABB’s HVDC Light voltage source converter technology and the ABB Ability Modular Advanced Control for HVDC (MACHTM).

As previously announced, Norway’s Aibel AS and a unit of Singaporean conglomerate Keppel Corporation Ltd (SGX:BN4) will be in charge of the design, engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning of one offshore HVDC converter platform in the North Sea along with an onshore converter station as part of the DolWin5 project.
