Canberra-based renewables firm Windlab Ltd expects to be able to break ground on the roughly-30-MW Kiata wind scheme in western Victoria state by the end of 2016.
Earlier this month, Australia's Clean Energy Finance Corp (CEFC) agreed to extend AUD 8 million (USD 6.2m/EUR 5.5m) to help finance the ongoing business expansion of Windlab. Kiata is one of the portfolio of projects in Australia to benefit from the funding.
In an e-mailed response to questions, Windlab CEO Roger Price told SeeNews Renewables that the wind power plant will consist of as much as 13 turbines. The official website of the Kiata wind project shows that an application for a planning permit has been submitted to the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning in late 2015 and is currently under assessment.
The wind farm will be located in Wimmera district’s town of Nhill, some 50 km (31.1 miles) northwest of Horsham city. Once up and running, the facility is expected to be able to generate enough electricity to power some 20,000 local households annually.
On April 15, Japan’s Eurus Energy Holdings Corp and Windlab held an opening ceremony for the 19.8-MW Coonooer Bridge wind farm, which is also in Victoria.
