Sep 4, 2013 - Thai firm Universal Adsorbents & Chemicals Pcl (BKK:UAC) has formed a biogas projects joint venture with Italian Sebigas SpA in a bid to take advantage of the Thai government’s efforts to boost the use of renewables.
By 2021 Thailand aims to have 3,600 MW of biogas power capacity, compared to 600 MW currently.
In a translated statement on Tuesday, UAC said it and its partner would each hold 49% in the new company, while the remaining 2% stake is for the legal advisor. The joint venture will provide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) as well as operations and maintenance (O&M) services to biogas projects in Thailand and southeastern Asia.
According to daily The Nation, UAC eyes revenues of over THB 1 billion (USD 31m/EUR 24m) from the joint company by 2017.
The joint company will have initial registered capital of THB 4 million. Its first EPC job is the compressed-biomethane-gas Mae Tang 2 plant in Mae Tang district in Chiang Mai province. It is one of nine projects in the region that are receiving financial support from the government.
