UK govt makes GBP 5m available for offshore wind component technologies
Nov 23, 2011 - The UK Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) yesterday announced GBP 5 million (USD 7.8m/EUR 5.8m) of funding for the development and demonstration of new offshore wind component technologies.
The funding is open to bids from companies with innovative ideas for improvements to the offshore wind systems, including enhanced blades, foundation designs and technologies that can facilitate installation and maintenance.
It represents the first call of the Offshore Wind Component Technologies Development and Demonstration scheme, to which the DECC has provisionally allotted GBP 15 million.
The scheme is one of two that the department plans to fund with the up to GBP 30 million envisaged for offshore wind innovation in the UK Renewables Roadmap unveiled in July.
